About Us

The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada: Yukon Centre (Yukon Astronomical Society) is a Yukon-based, non-profit organization, devoted to popularizing astronomy and its related sciences, in all the communities of the Yukon. Incorporated on October 5th 2015, the Society began  promoting astronomy in the community of Whitehorse, through social media, news articles, radio interviews, and a very successful Open House event!

We aim to give opportunities to all Yukoners, to hear and learn more about astronomy, and grow an understanding of, and inspire curiosity about, our Universe through public outreach programs, education, and support for astronomical research.

One of our key objectives was reached in May 2016, when the Yukon Astronomical Society  joined the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada’s federation of 28 local astronomy clubs, or Centres, located in 28 communities/regions across Canada, bringing together RASC members to take part in local activities.

On May 4th 2016, the YAS became the 29th Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada.
